Let’s Get Ready For GDPR

The new data protection regulation is really a hot topic amongst the clients of Ecovis Hungary and we intend to provide all the necessary legal support to them so that they can take the required measures. The European General Data Protection Regulation, a.k.a. GDPR, will override the national legislation by unifying the relevant rules in each member state. The regulation, entering into force on the 25th of May, 2018, will affect data controllers and data processors as well as electronic and paper-based personal data. The regulation is setting new expectations besides maintaining the strict regulatory environment which means it is not enough to meet the old requirements but the new regime demands changes.

We have been regularly publishing articles in connection with data protection in Hungarian at our “Jogado blog” site. In April, our expert, dr Kinga Kálmán held a presentation in a brunch meeting organized by Ecovis Tax Solution to an audience made up of mostly CEOs and CFOs where she introduced the substantial elements of the GDPR. Since it is impossible to make a template for corporate data processing, risk can be identified and mistakes and deficiencies can be corrected by carrying out unique audits according to the individual needs of the corporations.

Only a couple of weeks left until the application of the GDPR, thus it is worth asking for an expert opinion in the issue.

The Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information released a guideline to support the preparation for the GDPR and also releases opinions to help the orientation.
