The New EU Customs Regulation
The new Union Customs Code entered into force on October 30, 2013; however most of its substantive provisions apply from June 1, 2016. The UCC is the latest milestone in EU’s customs legislation giving a complex and directly applicable regulation involving new models and mechanism in several aspects of customs law. These areas particularly are customs public proceedings, representation in these proceedings, securities, granting benefits resulting from the status of authorised economic operator and national sanctions.
The obligation of application of the vast amount of theoretical legislation was preceded by a three-year-long transitional period for reassessment and for the preparation of the adoption of the changes in the UCC. The newly applicable UCC legislation is certainly increasing the need for precise and high quality consulting services in customs law.
